Until now, refrigeration has been seen as an integral part of the HVAC industry. Although it cannot be completely denied, yet in today’s situation, refrigeration is much more important than ever. To place refrigeration on the top list of international agenda, it is now very important to attach much more priority to this field.
Thus, I highly appreciate the stand of the International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR). On the occasion of World Refrigeration Day, IIR has called all countries to recognise refrigeration as a critical infrastructure for health, food security, energy efficiency, and climate sustainability.
The institute has also invited governments to establish National Refrigeration Committees, cross-sectoral platforms designed to coordinate sustainable refrigeration efforts across all applications, from cryogenic technologies and ultra-low temperature uses, to food and health cold chains, air conditioning, and heat pumps.
These committees should bring together all relevant stakeholders, ensuring that the full range of stakeholders, public and private, technical and policy, are involved in shaping effective and inclusive national refrigeration strategies. These efforts are identified by the IIR as essential to strengthening food systems, public health, industrial development, and climate action.
The refrigeration technology has a big role to play in improving our lives and creating a sustainable world. However, one of the most significant reasons behind global warming is wrong approach and/or lack of awareness in the field of refrigeration, which are now being addressed. Technologies in this field are growing very fast, but they need to be properly applied.
Thus, IIR; as the scientific, independent, and unbiased intergovernmental organisation for the development of refrigeration; is calling more countries to join its mission and actively support global efforts to elevate refrigeration to the top of national and international agendas, recognising the refrigeration sector as a vital enabler of sustainable development and climate resilience.
I feel this is high time when all nations should consider this aspect and take initiatives systematically to help us build a sustainable, pollution-free, cool world. IIR’s call to nations will not only accelerate this process but also ease the same.
