In line with Magneto’s vision to create solutions that shatter the status quo, company has developed new products to combat airborne infections – including SARS-CoV-2 (Coronavirus). It is especially important for the ongoing COVID-19 crisis in the hot summer. With Magneto Central Air Cleaner (MCAC), any AC can be upgraded to provide air sanitization using Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI) technology to kill up to 99% of microorganisms and Electrically Charged Filtration (ECF) to capture 90% of particles down to 0.3 microns in minutes.

The technology has been recommended by the Indian Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ISHRAE) and ASHRAE. Whether it’s your house, office, school, or hospital; Magneto Central Air Cleaner can be applied in all ACs to protect from coronavirus and numerous other airborne infectious diseases. It has been tested to eliminate over 99% of E. Coli, Bacillus (Anthrax surrogate), H1N1 (swine flu) in a few minutes, along with human coronavirus (H-CoV) inactivation testing that found 99.998% reduction of coronavirus in 5 minutes at a USA-based BSL-3 lab.

Three stage trapping

Magneto Central Air Cleaner (MCAC), co-powered with UVGI technology uses UV-C light for disinfection. To prevent secondary pathogen pollution in the air, it uses a 3-stage trapping process. This involves impingement, polarization, and agglomeration. Dual polarity is created through an underlying dielectric mesh, trapping very fine particles and neutralizing bio-aerosols from the air. MCAC’s “Trap and Kill” process removes PM 2.5, disease-causing germs, and allergens in recirculating systems at exceptionally high efficiency without any recurring costs. It has a very high filtration efficiency of ePM 1.0 90% as per ISO 16890 certification, meeting Global recommendations for SARS-CoV-2 airborne protection. This advanced multi-stage technology has been designed to integrate with any type of air conditioning system and sanitize air on a continuous basis by removing all viruses, bacteria, PM2.5, fungi, pollen, and other pollutants with remarkable efficiency and absolute discretion.

MCAC Purifies Air with UVGI Technology

UVGI is a popular air purification technology that disinfects the air by emitting UV rays in the range of 254 nm (UV-C light band). These rays disrupt the RNA and DNA of the microorganisms such as bacteria and viruses, thereby killing them. Additionally, the viruses and microorganisms cannot develop resistance to UV-C because it does not kill biologically. The high filtration efficiency of MCAC works on the combination of its “Trap and Kill’’ process and UVGI technology. The UVGI technology is well-recognized for its anti-microbial abilities and the revolutionary ECF system is ideal for combating PM 2.5 air pollution.

The application of germicidal UV light for air disinfection has been an accepted practice since the mid-20th century. While historically it had been used primarily in medical sanitation and sterile work facilities, more recently UV has become an accepted norm for airborne infection control, recommended by CDC and ASHRAE. Since the UVGI is applied inside the air conditioning unit, there is no UV exposure outside the unit, verified by Magneto’s product research team with a Zero UV Leak Test, making it completely safe for room occupants.

Stopping spread of highly Contagious Viruses

Although much about the novel Coronavirus remains unknown, scientists have established that COVID-19 is highly contagious and transmitted via air. The Coronavirus, which is 0.1 microns in size, has been established to be airborne and ASHRAE’s latest guidelines state that “airborne transmission of SARS-CoV-2 is significant and should be controlled.”

Due to the aerosolized transmission of the virus, every time we breathe or open our mouth to speak, we may risk inhaling or exhaling the particles containing the virus. Furthermore, the small particles containing the virus hang in the air and anyone, in the same room, breathing that air can get infected.

The risk of infection through aerosol particles is even higher in enclosed spaces such as offices, restaurants, and showrooms, where the air is not being circulated often. Indoor spaces where people are spending prolonged time, which could even be a residential space, become breeding grounds for Coronavirus. A study conducted early this year by a group of Chinese researchers, analyzed the cases of 7,324 COVID-positive patients and found out that the infection risk is four times higher indoors, than it is outside. Another report from Japanese scientists, which is currently awaiting peer review, indicates the same. It says that the chance of transmitting COVID-19 in a closed environment was 18.7 times greater compared with an open-air environment. These research findings emphasize the need to sanitize the air inside our homes as well as offices to restrain the virus’ spread.

The coronavirus transmits rapidly indoors due to poor or the absence of ventilation. Hence, the first step in stopping the virus is to ensure that any enclosed room or office building is well-ventilated with proper air circulation. Experts also believe that as the coronavirus is exhaled as tiny air droplets, it travels faster and longer distances into confined air-conditioned spaces. This is because air conditioners are not equipped with air filtration features to get rid of harmful bacteria and viruses, posing a major risk to our health in the summer months. Thus, it is likely that air conditioners are a potential catalyst for COVID-19 and other airborne diseases. It goes without saying that there is an urgent requirement for advanced air cleaners and air purifiers that leverage cutting-edge technology to not only sanitize air, but also remove air pollution.

Taking into account the risks associated with the usage of air conditioners, Magneto Cleantech offers ISO-certified, globally compliant solutions designed to eliminate all harmful particles including PM 2.5 and microbes with more than 99% efficiency. Some of these systems come along with air quality monitors that provide users with real-time information on the quality of air their employees, patients, staff, or family are breathing. These innovative and extremely effective mechanisms are safe to use indoors and have been tested in third-party laboratories adhering to global statutory requirements.

As the ‘new normal’ is setting-in around the world and no one as of now can say, when things are going to be back to pre-covid times, we have to remain extremely vigilant and take every possible measure to prevent the contagion from spreading further. With large parts of the population staying inside for the unforeseeable future, sanitization of indoor air is one such crucial yet neglected measure that can keep us safe from the clutches of the virus. It is, therefore, necessary to create awareness about the importance of installing high-efficiency air filtration combined with UVGI systems in both residential and commercial indoor spaces. Increased awareness among people will not only mitigate the infection risk but also improve the overall air quality indoors.

Installing Magneto Central Air Cleaner co-powered with UV light air is critical for ensuring the safety of indoor spaces. The advanced units can be integrated and retrofitted with the existing air-conditioning systems to eliminate PM 2.5 and PM 1.0 particles, viruses, bacteria, fungi, germs, mold, toxic gases, and VOCs that create indoor air pollution. The independent UVGI solutions by Magneto CleanTech can also be applied in-duct or on-coil of the AHU to remove airborne pathogens from the indoor environment.

Benefits of Magneto Central Air Cleaner
