Mitsubishi Electric is a world leader in air conditioning systems for residential, commercial, and industrial use. The company has introduced a new concept about maintaining indoor air quality called ‘It’s Time to Upgrade Your Air’ under the Air Conditioners digital awareness campaign – Creating your Comfort.

Amidst the ongoing COVID-19 era, staying at home with little or no contact with nature may become unhealthy when there’s no proper ventilation system to supply clean air. Mitsubishi Electric’s Lossnay Ventilator is a complete heat exchange ventilation system that uses paper characteristics to perform temperature and humidity exchange. It helps in maintaining appropriate humidity and temperature for people to stay comfortable.

Lossnay only draws fresh air from the outside – it does not take air from the attic, the build-up of dust, dirt, and other contaminants such as mold, insect, and rodent droppings makes air in attic area much harder to filter before it is distributed to your home. Therefore, Lossnay System specifically utilizes direct fresh air after proper filtration.

This cutting-edge technology will help the consumers to get fresh air to stay healthy at home. Backed up by an energy-efficient air conditioning system, Mitsubishi Electric Air Conditioners will provide consumers a chance to enjoy new normal in the safety of their houses.

Describing the new concept, Naohiko Hosokawa, Director & Business Unit Head-Living Environment Division, Mitsubishi Electric India Pvt. Ltd., said,“Combining Lossnay ventilation system with our Air Conditioners will provide best-in-class indoor air quality, which is the need of the hour as most of the working professionals in India and rest of the world would continue working from home.”

What is Lossnay technology?

On a hot summer day, if you decide to ventilate a cool, air-conditioned room with fresh outside air, the hot air entering the room will cause the temperature and humidity of the room to rise. If you adjust the air conditioner to a more powerful setting to maintain the temperature and humidity of the room, your electricity bills will rise. The Lossnay (The Lossnay brand name, in use since the system was developed in 1970, was coined through a combination of English and Japanese words that mean ‘no loss.’) ventilation system lets you refresh the room air while maintaining the same level of cool, dry air that you desire. The system prevents energy loss during ventilation and helps to reduce electricity usage.

Lossnay can be adapted to many different applications…
Lossnay Core: Heat exchange using a specially treated paper filter…

At the heart of the Lossnay Energy Recovery Ventilator is the Lossnay Core, a heat exchange filter developed exclusively by Mitsubishi Electric. As the exiting room air and the fresh outside air pass through the Lossnay Core, they are kept separate by partition plates made of a specially processed paper. It allows the transmission of temperature and humidity but prevents the passage of air. The idea for this technology was sparked when an engineer, watching his daughter at play, rolled a sheet of paper into a tube and then blew air through it. He noticed that the heat of her breath was transferred through the paper to his hand.

As the global demand for energy-efficient commercial and home heating and cooling systems increases, it’s no wonder that Lossnay Energy Recovery Ventilators are found in a wide range of facilities, including office buildings, department stores, and municipal buildings. Around the world, Lossnay Energy Recovery Ventilators are earning accolades for energy efficiency. The system has twice won Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry’s Energy Conservation Award. In addition, Japan and seven other countries in Europe and North America have awarded patents to Lossnay technology.
