Aeroseal has been used to seal leaks on more than 150,000 homes across the US. It uses a non-toxic, water based sealant with the same ingredients that is normally found in chewing gum and hair spray. The most significant way to show the safety of the Aeroseal duct sealing process is to detail some of the many hospitals and medical facilities that have used the technology to improve their own facilities.
Nemours Children’s Hospital: Jacksonville, a Florida-based hospital, used Aeroseal duct sealing to solve air flow issues in its ventilation system. In doing so, the management improved the performance of the 30-year-old building’s HVAC system. They also reduced the risk of nosocomial infections by sealing leaks that could spread contagions from room to room.
Heart Institute at the University of Ottawa: This healthcare facility used the duct sealing technology to ensure particles from their laboratory weren’t spreading via air duct leaks to other wings within the building. As a result, they noticed another significant benefit – a dramatic increase in energy savings. After duct sealing, the facility managers were able to effectively ventilate the entire facilities using just a fraction of the power they previously needed to run the large ventilation fans. Before Aeroseal duct sealing, the medical facility was losing about 800 CFM (cubic feet per minute) of air through leaks in the duct work. Aeroseal brought that down to about 10 CFM.
Arzanah Medical Center: Aeroseal was used at a new state-of-the-art medical facility in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The multi-billion dollar medical complex was nearing completion – when testing of the duct system showed leaks throughout the HVAC risers were robbing the facility of nearly half the air being treated by its HVAC system. With most of the ductwork hidden behind newly constructed walls, contractors faced with the possibility of having to rip down walls, repair the ductwork and begin rebuilding. Instead, Aeroseal was applied and leaks were sealed and the new facility was ready for opening day – right on schedule.
In all of the cases described above, the duct sealing process was accomplished without disruption to the facilities’ normal operation. And the facility administrators at each medical facility conducted rigorous research and determined the Aeroseal process posed no health concerns to workers or patients.
