Completing an eventful year, we are going to step into the new year 2024, at this juncture of transition, on behalf of Cooling India magazine, I take the opportunity to congratulate all our industry associates, sponsors and readers.

After the COP 28 that has been completed recently, it has been a common quest – how our industry will begin to reshape itself in the year 2024. I feel of late some of the trends have been very prominent in our industry – and in the post COP 28 days they will gain more prominence.

As creating any kind of comfort zone needs power, and still now we are mostly depending on fossil-fuels for power generation, which is the major cause behind the dreadful climate change, our industry will definitely stride forward with energy efficiency.

The practice of transitioning into more environment-friendly refrigerants, which is already at the top priority list of our industry, will receive more focus.

Comparatively less-utilised technologies like desiccant-based cooling systems, magnetic refrigeration et al will come in the forefront, and new plug & play kind of products based on these technologies will create their own space in the consumer market.

Cooling systems based on renewable power, like solar cooling systems, will gain significant response in the industry. Simultaneously, integration of the space cooling system with other utilities will increase to minimize the carbon footprint of any enclosed space. This will definitely more intensively use the latest enabler technologies like Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML).

Passive cooling is yet another area that will draw huge focus in the coming days – as any powerless cooling method is always considered to be the best one.

Although evaporative cooling is not very effective for the humid climates, considering its huge cost advantage, already it is gaining popularity in all areas. I hope new designs in this area will soon evolve combining the efficient air-blowing technologies.

The world of technologies is always dynamic, what we need is timely dissemination of new ideas and thoughts that will help in continuous innovation and keep the cooling industry progressive.
