Users of comfort zone often overlook to monitor the rate of ventilation in their premises. It’s not only the temperature but also counting the Air Changes Per Hour (ACPH) is very important to maintain a healthy indoor environment. Especially, one of the most important lessons that we have learnt from the corona pandemic is – a higher ACPH rate can help control of viruses floating in the trapped air. Additionally, higher ACPH rate facilitates maintenance of moisture levels as well as mold and mildew in a closed space. Thus, globally now the focus is shifting towards monitoring and optimising ACPH rate.

I found the reflection of the same thought when Airthings, the global leader in indoor air quality monitoring and building performance insights, launched Ventilation Rate, a new feature that aims in helping optimize a building’s ventilation system alongside a new product at AHR 2024. In addition to the release of Space Nano in late 2023, the Ventilation Rate feature now joins the Airthings for Business portfolio of solutions designed to optimize building performance and enhance workspace well-being. Thus, Ventilation Rate is Airthings for Business’ latest feature, offering two new virtual sensors that measure the estimated Air Exchange Rate and Airflow in a specific room or space. These estimates indicate how often the air in a room is replaced with fresh air each hour.

What will be the benefits of the users? As higher air exchange rates correspond to better ventilation, improving indoor air quality and reducing risk of transmission of airborne viruses, this new feature will serve as a watchdog of the Indoor Air Quality (IAQ). Balancing sufficient ventilation with energy efficiency is crucial. Analysing the Air Exchange Rate in rooms and buildings through the Airthings Dashboard or API will enable optimization of ventilation systems to minimise energy consumption while providing healthy indoor air to where people are in a building. Yet another benefit of the new feature will be – ensuring compliance with the changing building codes and standards. I highly appreciate the global tech company’s prudence.
