In the post COP 28 days, energy-saving has been included in the top priority list of almost all countries. I recently came across and liked a simple yet effective list of tips for lowering year-round energy costs in running domestic HVAC systems, which has been issued by the well-known company Ameren Missouri.

Ameren Missouri has been providing electric and gas service for more than 100 years. The company’s service area covers 64 counties and more than 500 communities. The social-responsibility-conscious company has put together a list of six energy savings resolutions for homeowners to implement this year, which are effective everywhere. Thus, let me put their suggestions below.

As hot water promotes blood circulation throughout the body, it is good to take bath in hot water. Although, the water heater for bathing should be between 40-45 degrees Celsius, we often keep the setting at a higher point. Thus, Ameren is advising to turn down the geyser’s set point as per requirement.

According to the company, it is possible to save up to 10% of the energy bill through caulking around windows and doors to prevent flow of heat at a home.

The company feels use of advanced power strips, which are ideal for TV and PC setups, can reduce the amount of standby power electronics waste leading to energy saving.

The average home spends 11% of its energy budget just on lighting. However, certified low-energy LED lamps consume up to 80% less energy. Thus, use of certified high efficiency LED bulbs widens the possibility of energy saving.

Those who are using room heaters, just by adjusting the temperature for at least eight hours a day, they can save a lot.

Energy efficient home modification too yields a good result.

Personally I feel, developing a habit of careful cross-checking of switches produces a very good effect in this regard. For example, repeated checking of geysers’ or kitchen gadgets’ switches often helps a lot.
