Efficiency of a cooling circuit not only depends on the process technology but also on the auxiliary fittings used in the circuit. The cost of maintaining a fairly big cooling circuit to a great extent depends on its leak-proof joints, where proper plumbing skill of the maintenance workers plays a big role.

As far as air ducts are concerned, it has been found that almost up to 20% of cool air leaks in the environment are due  to inefficient ducting systems. Thus, proper sealing of the joints is very essential to keep the enclosed area cool and comfortable – and of course save the energy cost.

With the increasing energy price, it has now been more essential to be careful to save energy in any kind of cooling process. Although in the recent past, the electricity charges have not been increased in India, the recent Fitch Ratings states, “India’s increasing electricity demand for cooling as summer approaches, as well as strong economic growth and challenges in increasing power generation will likely keep short-term electricity rates high in the near term.”

Very often the long chilled water lines are repaired by ordinary plumbers, who although may be experts in their works – may not be aware of the techniques of preventing unduly heat transfer. Thus, a specially trained plumber who also understands insulation techniques like – application of materials such as thermocol, cellular glass, glass fiber, polyurethane foam and phenolic foam, can do the job in a better or more satisfactory way.

In general, in any kind of cooling circuit, prevention of energy transfer from the unwanted areas is very essential. Also, leak prevention should be given top priority. There may be several reasons behind leakage(s) in a cooling circuit. Some of the common problems that may lead to leakage, include: improper installation, clogged drain pipe, dirt in the air filter, leaking of the refrigerant, damaged drain pipe etc. In any case, regular inspection, of the cooling circuit can help in preventing troubles before they grow bigger. Be prepared to beat the summer heat efficiently.
